Reckless Driving and Pedestrian Injuries in Buffalo

Pedestrian accidents caused by reckless driving are among the most dangerous and tragic traffic incidents in Buffalo. Reckless driving includes behaviors such as speeding, aggressive lane changes, running red lights, failing to yield, tailgating, and driving under the influence. When these actions occur near busy intersections or crosswalks, pedestrians are especially vulnerable because they have no physical protection against fast-moving vehicles.

Reckless drivers often make split-second decisions without considering the safety of others. Even momentary lapses in judgment can lead to life-altering injuries for pedestrians. Common consequences of these accidents include broken bones, head trauma, internal injuries, spinal cord damage, and, in severe cases, fatalities. The emotional impact on victims and their families can be profound, often resulting in anxiety, depression, and long-term psychological trauma.

Many pedestrian accidents happen at intersections where drivers fail to observe traffic signals or crosswalks. Speeding and distracted driving further increase the risk, as reckless drivers may not see pedestrians until it is too late. Alcohol or drug impairment significantly compounds this risk, reducing reaction time and judgment.

Victims of pedestrian accidents caused by reckless driving face substantial medical bills, lost income, and ongoing rehabilitation costs. In fatal cases, families may pursue wrongful death claims to hold the driver accountable and secure financial support. Establishing liability in these cases often requires a thorough investigation, including reviewing police reports, witness statements, surveillance footage, and accident reconstruction data.

Working with an experienced pedestrian accident lawyer is crucial to protect your rights after a reckless driving incident. A skilled attorney can help document evidence, navigate insurance claims, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from the accident.
