Buffalo, NY (July 7, 2025) – Late Friday night, tragedy struck on Grand Island when a young driver lost his life in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 190. On July 4, New York State Police responded to the southbound lanes just before midnight after receiving reports of a collision involving a Toyota Camry and a Lexus SUV.
According to officials, 19-year-old Tamim Akbari, who was driving the Camry, crashed into the rear of the Lexus SUV as it slowed in the right lane due to traffic. The impact of the crash was severe enough to claim Akbari’s life at the scene.
Several passengers from both vehicles suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious. Among the injured was a child, underscoring the heartbreaking impact such accidents can have on families. Paramedics quickly arrived and provided treatment before transporting the injured victims to local hospitals for further care.
Troopers closed off a portion of Interstate 190 southbound for several hours overnight as they investigated the scene and worked to clear the roadway. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by authorities. Drivers passing through the area were met with delays and detours while emergency crews handled the aftermath.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Tamim Akbari’s family and everyone affected by this incident.
