Motorcyclist Seriously Injured at Main St & Callodine Ave

Amherst, NY (September 17, 2025) – On Sunday evening, September 14, a serious collision occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Callodine Avenue in Amherst, resulting in significant injuries to a motorcyclist.

According to Amherst Police, the crash involved a motorcycle and a Jeep. A 32-year-old man from Buffalo was riding westbound on Main Street when a 50-year-old Buffalo woman driving a Jeep attempted a left turn northbound onto Callodine Avenue. The Jeep entered the motorcycle’s path, causing the vehicles to collide. The motorcyclist was reportedly ejected from his bike and sustained serious head and hand injuries. He was transported to Erie County Medical Center in stable condition. The driver and passenger of the Jeep were unharmed.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local authorities. We hope the injured victim makes a smooth and full recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Amherst

Motorcycle collisions in Amherst and across Western New York are often among the most severe types of traffic accidents due to the inherent vulnerability of riders. Unlike occupants of enclosed vehicles, motorcyclists lack a protective barrier, leaving them highly susceptible to serious injuries such as head trauma, fractures, spinal injuries, and road rash, even when wearing helmets and other protective gear.

Several factors commonly contribute to these accidents. Distracted driving, such as texting, talking on the phone, or adjusting in-car controls, can lead drivers to overlook motorcyclists on the road. Failure to yield, especially at intersections or during turns, is another frequent cause. Excessive speeds reduce reaction time and amplify the severity of collisions, making even minor errors potentially life-threatening. Weather conditions, poor lighting, and road hazards can further increase the risk for riders.

Investigating motorcycle accidents, particularly those involving multiple vehicles, is often complex. Law enforcement and accident reconstruction specialists analyze traffic patterns, vehicle positions, skid marks, and witness statements to determine how the crash occurred and who may be at fault. Surveillance footage, traffic cameras, and expert testimony may also play a crucial role in establishing liability.

Understanding your legal rights after a motorcycle accident is essential. Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. In cases of catastrophic injury, long-term care expenses and diminished quality of life may also be considered. Families of seriously injured riders have additional avenues for recovery, including potential claims for wrongful death if the accident proves fatal.

Engaging a motorcycle accident lawyer can make a significant difference in the aftermath of a serious accident. Legal professionals can help gather evidence, negotiate with insurance companies, and pursue maximum compensation, ensuring that responsible parties are held accountable and that victims receive the support they need during a difficult time.
